Knives can be dangerous weapons. They can cause serious injury and knife crime is rising, but knives are also the most commonly used tools we humans have. Show me a chef that doesn’t have a selection or a farmer, woodworker, sailor, fisherman, rock climber, canoeist, scout or bushcrafter who doesn’t own at least one knife specific to his or her craft.
Hennessy Hammock are one of the most highly regarded hammock brands in the world, and they come with a price tag to match. Or so I thought?
As a climber/mountaineer, kayaker and mountain biker working as an outdoor instructor and part time retail assistant money is not in abundance. 5k on a bike? Acceptable. A few hundred quid on climbing gear here and there? Absolutely! £450 on a set of Lettmann Ergonom Pro paddles? Best £450 I’ve ever spent!! £200? For a Hammock? Your kidding right?
When Pete, co-owner of ProAdventure, took a Hennessy Hammock out of stock and told me to give it a try, I thought great, luxury for free. Little did I know that two weeks later I would be totally sold and in love with Hennessy Hammocks!!
The start of a Hennessy Hammock love affair…
There are few sweeter sights for me than a sunny campsite being populated with a couple of dozen Tentipi over the course of an afternoon. By the time the darkness was upon us, most of the forty or so guests had arrived at the fifth UK Tentipi Camp, their tipis pimped and perfect, the fires aglow with coffee pots spluttering away and the odd glasses of grape and grain going down nicely.
The Tentipi Zirkonflex (and from 2019 the Tentipi Safirflex) is a hybrid of the Larger Tentipi adventure tents and the enormous Tentipi event tents that seat up to 144. The Zirkonflex can be used closed like the Safir 15 and Zirkon 15 tents, but has 8 gussets and extra straps and attachment points to enable any number of sides from 3 to all 16 to be opened up to the elements.
The Tentipi camp has been popular in Europe for many years, where a like minded bunch of people, who have a common love of camping in their Tentipi Tents, get together to socialise, play and have a good weekend.
ProAdventure held the UK’s first Tentipi Camp in April 2015 on the banks of the River Dee, attended by over 60 people. There were bushcraft activities, canoeing and plenty of opportunity to talk around the campfire.
Our 2016 camp, held in the Welsh borders was just as popular with old friends and new enjoying the scenery and activities offered by our campsite hosts at Underhill Farm.
We aim to make every camp a little bit different and we are learning as we go. Our first camp this year is at Carrog on the River Dee from 5th to 7th May. We would love to invite you along if you have your own Tentipi and if you are interested in buying Tentipi we have a few Tipis for hire but be quick as they go fast. Either way you will need to book.
The Nordic Sami kåta and the Native American teepee are in principle the same design for living close to nature. The nomadic Sami people of northern Scandinavia, in developing the cone-shaped frame of wooden poles covered with animal hide, had a wind-resistant shelter that was both portable and easy to keep warm.
When we set out to run the UK’s first Tentipi camp we were scratching our heads about what people would want out of the event, we looked at the events Albert Dorp runs over in Germany and came up with our own ideas in addition. The Rally of Wales brought Llangollen firm, Pro Adventure Ltd it’s largest ever sale in the form of a small village of tipi’s for a big PR event for the Rally of Wales and Hyundai UK.
The tents, complete with floors and wood burning stoves, were used as part of a media programme for Hyundai UK. Hyundai were main sponsors of the welsh rally and were keen to give journalists a access to the rally and an adventurous overnight experience which was completely different to the usual corporate hospitality they might experience.
The journalists were flown from London to see the rally, and accommodated in the Tentipi Tents supplied by ProAdventure
