Rock Climbing and Abseiling Taster

Rock Climbing is a traditional, yet fast-growing outdoor sport. Come and find out what it’s all about under the tuition of our qualified experts. A half day session will combine both abseiling and climbing and will give you a taste of the buzz the sport can give. For some, a half day can start a lifetime of pleasure and excitement.

We use local crags and quarries for most of our climbing and the views are stunning. The emphasis is on having fun and getting a buzz in safety. Those scared of heights will always be encouraged, never forced.

Discover Rock Climbing and Abseiling Day

A great day on the rock, with time for lots of climbing and bouldering, and with a little abseiling thrown in too! This is a favourite part of our multi-activity week and a popular group day at the weekend. We don't usually get too technical, but do lots of climbing on our great local crags, you will learn some climbing techniques, and how to belay safely. An instructors favourite day out too.  £88pp

Explore Rock Climbing and Abseiling 2-day course
 

 Well, we can’t promise to teach you everything there is to know about rock climbing, but we can cover all the basics, with both practical and classroom sessions on this great sport.

At the end of the weekend you'll know about climbing equipment, safety, rope work, bouldering, belaying, abseiling, anchors, grading, guidebooks and leading. We’ll show you different climbing techniques such as jamming, smearing, mantle shelving, lay backing and chimneying. We may even teach you how to do a rock-over or an Egyptian.

When it comes to equipment you will learn about, ropes, nuts, harnesses, helmets, karabiners, figure of eights and belaying devices, as well as friends and prussiks.

You will be taught by a qualified climbing instructor on ‘single pitch’ routes on our local crags. At the end of the weekend we recommend that you join a climbing club or return with a committed partner who has also completed the course, for further supervised practice and instruction with your own equipment.

Whilst not a sport in it's own right, Abseiling is a useful skill for any climber, and there will be the chance to have a go throughout the course!

Ultimate Rock Climbing - 5 Day Course

Three days with our instructors on the local single pitch crags learning the basic skills and improving your climbing style and ability, followed by two days with a Mountaineering Instructor, multi-pitching on the big stuff in Snowdonia, or learning to lead. Ratios are up to 1:6 on the first three days and 1:2 for the last two days.

Suitable for keen beginners and improvers.

A 2-day course for people who climb indoors and who want an introduction to the outdoor climbing environment. Particular subjects covered include guide books, anchors, and gear placements.

Lockwood's Chimney - a taste of Mountaineering!

The alternative climb and abseil, in a mountain atmosphere on an historic route. The Rev. Lockwood chose it well for this is a classic, a grand approach, a devious route, and a big abseil. This is an activity day no one should miss.
Traditionally climbed by a full moon in evening dress after closing time we break tradition and use daylight and ropes.  

After the approach through the woods we grab a bite to eat and set off up the first section of ledges and easy cracks leading to the crux.  A few people have trouble, but a quick pull on the rope from above gets everybody up.  This vertical section (photo) takes us to a series of ledges going back into the mountain to an easy climb back into daylight.  The view from here is spectacular with the river 100m below and woods and mountains all around.  Here we set up the ropes for a 50m abseil to the ground for a late lunch.  After recovering the ropes we walk back to the lake and return to Llangollen just in time for tea.

Climbing Day at Dinbren

Come climbing and abseiling at Dinbren with its breath taking views of the mountains in the distance to the scree slopes below your feet - turn around and be faced with your challenge of over 100 routes ranging from easy to extreme, there are chimneys, pillars, bouldering and overhangs among some sections of the rockface to tantalise and test you. This is a superb climbing venue which is well suited to those of you who have climbed before and for beginners who are looking for a great day out to see what climbing is all about.

Learn to Lead Climb Days

Just for two.  One of our best climbing instructors will be yours for the day.  Aimed at competent seconds who want to move on to leading, and for climbers who wish to move from leading on the climbing wall or sports routes to lead more traditional climbs. Depending on your requirements and ability, you and your climbing partner will learn about anchors, belaying, and gear placement. We aim to get you leading on a top rope  placing gear.  The fee is for two people for one day, with one instructor for the two of you.

 £240 for two people.

Multi-Pitch Climbing in Snowdonia

Sample the classic mountaineering routes of Snowdonia with your own fully qualified Mountaineering Instructor. Climb Tryfan's East Face, Milestone Buttress or the Idwal Slabs, or do a classic scramble such as Bryants' Gully or the Parson's Nose.
