SWITCH and SWITCH Plus
6- or 16-week Instructor Training Courses

Intensive courses giving participants the opportunity to learn physical skills and technical knowledge, and have plenty of time to practice in various outdoor activities, with the aim of helping you to gain relevant National Governing Body (NGB) awards, which are the stepping stones to instructor qualifications. Courses include Kayaking, Open Canoeing, Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking and First Aid training and qualifications, amongst others.

 

Individual Qualifications:White Water Kayking

Kayaking and Open Canoeing

We offer both personal skills awards and coaching awards from the British Canoe Union (BCU) and Welsh Canoeing Association (WCA) – Star Tests from 1 to 5, and Coaching Levels 1 to 3 in kayak, canoe and sea kayak. We also offer Canoe Safety Tests and white-water safety and rescue courses.

Mountain Biking Mountain Bike Instructor Training

We run Level 1 and 2 Training and Assessment courses under the Mountain Bike Instructors Award Scheme. Level 1 allows the instructor to lead groups cycling on low-level terrain such as canal towpaths, country parks, and non-wilderness areas where help is readily accessible. Level 2 allows progression to leading groups in more remote areas, with focus on navigation skills.

REC Outdoor First Aid Training for InstructorsFirst Aid

We run both the Rescue Emergency Care (REC) "Emergency First Aider" 16 hour course and the British Canoe Union "Aquatic First Aid" 8 hour course.

Rock Climbing Rock Climbign Instructor Training

We can organise the Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE) Single Pitch Award training and assessment courses, to allow competent climbers to supervise groups of novices climbing on single pitch crags in the UK (available for groups of 4).

Mountain Walking

We can organise the Mountain Leader Training England (MLTE) Walking Group Leader and Mountain Leader Training Courses.
