These Open courses are ideal for individuals and small groups, who will come together to form an expedition group.

Course Description
Our Open Gold Expedition packages include the following:

  • 2 days Training course - near Llangollen
  • 3 days (2 nights) Practice Expedition - on the River Severn
  • 4 days (3 nights) Assessment Expedition - on the River Wye
D of E Gold Training and Expeditions
Our Open Gold courses give you the option to paddle either a solo Kayak or an Open Canoe as part of a tandem pair.
Included:

We provide all of the water-based training and equipment, plus supervision and assessment of the expeditions. Download this pdf for more information.

Not Included:

Your D. of E. co-ordinator needs to provide all the standard land-based campcraft training.  Contact us for more information. Group members will also need to provide their own personal camping equipment.

Details

Cost:

£600pp

Possible extra costs…

Part of the expedition is getting yourself to the start, so we will normally meet you there with the equipment. We may be able to arrange transport for you if necessary.

If you plan a very challenging expedition you may need extra training days (depending on your existing skills), to ensure that all group members have the necessary personal skills.

Camping fees are not included, as we believe that candidates should - in the spirit of D. of E. - do as much of the planning and administration as possible. Camping fees can be reduced to nothing depending on whether your expeditions can include wild camping or not (please be aware that this is not always possible). Training weekends are accommodated on our Bushcraft site, so there are no camping fees for these.

Food is a cost but this depends on how much you spend!
