The Best of Wales' Gorge Walking
83% of customers who took part in our Gorge Walking sessions rated their experience as 'Excellent'
(100% rated it as 'Good' or 'Excellent'!)
Gorge Walking, or Canyoning as it is known in other parts of the world, is a surprisingly satisfying activity! Making your way up (or down) a narrow, deep cleft carved in the side of a mountain by the deceptively small stream through which you are wading, or swimming. Climbing up raging torrents, secured by your instructor's rope, jumping into deep pools and abseiling down waterfalls can all be part of the fun. A well earned lunch can sometimes be had sitting in the dappled sunlight on a sun warmed slab of rock, by a deep pool with the sound of flowing water and the distant roar of the wind outside this sheltered place.
After lunch perhaps you can try to traverse that pool, but remember even the instructors fall in sometimes!
We choose the best gorges available in North Wales, so you have a great time on your Gorge Walking adventure!

Half Day Gorge Description
Kitted out in wetsuit buoyancy aid, harness and helmet you make your way up the rock steps and small falls, under a bridge, through a pool to the big waterfall, down you go 35 feet into the deep pool then swim across to dry land. When everyone is down it's time for the water jumps - if you dare!
Our Favourite Day in a Gorge*
Head west, deeper into the mountains, off the A roads, to the single track and over the mountain pass to a hidden valley where we park and don our kit. Wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet and harness, and don't forget your packed lunch!
A short walk takes us to the water, where we jump into the first pool and scramble up the first slippery drop with each others' help. As we scramble up stream the gorge closes in around us. After the first duck we come to the boulder choke, duck down low to the hidden cave then up and out, and the unclimbable waterfalls come into sight. The escape, with safety ropes, is a steep scramble with a welcome rest above in the sunshine. After lunch the gorge has a different feel, rock pools and steps worn in the rock on the mountainside. As the walls close in again we play, floating under a giant boulder and playing under a waterfall before we escape to the next section. 'Razor-ridge' jump is next with the option of the higher jump. For the brave there is a swim across a pool, duck under a rib of rock then clip on the rope and climb out of the bowl. The last test is the sump - you stand in chest-deep water, under a gentle waterfall, a rib of rock breaks the surface but at your feet there is a slot, duck down and kick and your instructor will pull you through.
With just enough energy you head for the track and it's all the way downhill to the vehicles after a fantastic day!
