The BCU 4 Star Canoe award is a peer- leadership award, which is aimed at making you a competent and confident leader on moving water up to grade 2, and on open water with prevailing winds of up to force 4.

Course Description

The 4 Star Canoe award is a set structure, which involves 2 days of skills and leadership training which is followed by a 2 day assessment.

Training takes place on open and white water and looks at the skills needed to safely control your canoe in those environments, the tools that can be used to act as a good leader, the relevant rescue techniques needed, what equipment you might need and ways to stow it in the canoe

The assessment for 4 Star is a 2 day assessment, one day spent on open water and one on moving water. To make it a worthwhile assessment we only use real paddlers of a suitable standard for you to lead and look after, so you will be tested fairly and properly. You are assessed on your ability to safely and appropriately lead the group in both environments and deal with any situations that arise.

You need to have done the training course and hold a valid White Water Safety and Rescue certificate before going for assessment.

Duration - 2 days Training (obligatory) and 2 days Assessment
