The BCU 2 star award is the entry requirement to become a paddlesports coach.
Course Description
This award is trained and assessed over two days allowing plenty of time for progression and improvement. The aim of the 2 star test is to show that you have control over a canoe and kayak on sheltered water. Basically put, this means that we look at the skills needed to move your canoe/kayak around easily and gracefully, but more importantly we get you to be able to decide how to modify those skills depending on the weather and what you want the boat to do.
This is all about being a Paddler, not just someone who sits in a boat and floats about. Our instructors will use their experience to take you from where you are and get you up to the standard to pass. This is a fantastic two days working hard on the water, learning skills and theory but having a lot of fun in the process
Duration - 2 days combined Training and Assessment
Pre-Requisites - Suitable for anyone interested in paddlesports and has been in a boat before.
Note: If you are a novice paddler and are undertaking your BCU 2 Star award as a pre-requisite for the BCU/UKCC Level 1 Coaching course, please note that best practice recommends that you gain your 2 Star award well before you attend your Level 1 course. This allows you a period of consolidation during which you can practice and hone your new skills before learning how to coach them to others. If you have a good amount of previous flat water experience (including being coached by a qualified instructor) then you may not need this period of consolidation and may be able to undertake your 2 Star award closer to the date of your Level 1 course.
