Self-braking belay device
Device for belaying a leader or a second and for single rope descents.

Self-braking system: if the rope suddenly comes under tension (e.g. in a fall), the cam pivots to pinch the rope, thus helping the belayer stop the climber's fall.
Usage is similar to that of conventional belay devices:
giving/taking slack is done by using both hands to slide the rope through the device,
falls are held by holding the free end of the rope,
for lowering and rappelling, the rate of descent is controlled by the hand holding the free end of the rope (the rope is released with the handle).

Back-up device / ascender
A mechanical replacement for self-jamming knots (Prusik, Machard, etc.).

When positioned below the descender, the SHUNT can be used as a back-up device to protect a descent on rappel.

PIRANA
Canyoning descender
Descender with three braking positions, designed for use with canyoning descent techniques.

Three different braking positions to choose from before beginning descent depending on the user's weight, the rope's diameter and the terrain.
Two supplementary braking spurs allow friction to be increased during descent.
A carabiner with a cross section of 12 mm (like an ATTACHE) provides a tight fit in the small hole, creating a «rigid» carabiner / descender unit:
stays securely attached to the harness during rope insertion, to help prevent loss,
greatly reduces the risk of leverage on the carabiner gate (poor positioning).
Designed to be used with the "Rapid" technique, which prevents the formation of a lark's head knot around the body of the PIRANA and reduces kinks in the rope, without decreasing braking friction.

The mark II Ropeman from Wild Country is an excellent, robust mini ascender especially suited to emergancy situations. However, becuase of it's lightweight and compact size it can also be found on Alpine faces and big walls the world over.

It can also be used for rope access and rescue situations.

The steel toothed cams provide a vice like grip on iced ropes, which is part of the reason it has become so popular with mountaineers...even Andy Kirkpatrick reccomends it!
